Yamano Church

A tiny chapel embraced by the silence of a hidden settlement.
Yamano Church traces its origins to around 1820, when Christian families migrated from Sotome by way of the Goto Islands. After a resident baptized in Nagasaki in 1872 became the community spiritual leader, their first church was built in 1887. The present church, completed in 1924, features a distinctive bat shaped ceiling and continues to reflect the quiet devotion of the faithful who settled here.
