Miiraku Church

Located in Miiraku, this stained glass church shines at the heart of Goto oldest Christian community.
In 1797, hidden Christians escaping persecution by the Omura domain sought refuge here, continuing their faith in secrecy for generations. The original Gothic style wooden church was completed in 1880, but by 1971 it had suffered from age and termite damage, leading to the construction of the present church.

Today, visitors are greeted by striking modern mosaic murals crafted from vivid materials such as shells and ceramics, while the interior showcases beautifully detailed stained glass windows. The windows on the right portray the life of Christ while those on the left illustrate the rich history of Catholicism in the Goto Islands.
