Oono Church

Designed by Father de Rotz and built with parishioners’ support, this stone church radiates warmth and devotion.
Ono is believed to be connected to the Christian Koteda clan, who fled to Nagasaki in 1599 after facing persecution by the Matsuura clan, lords of Hirado. In 1893, Father de Rotz designed a church for the faithful of the area and, together with his parishioners, built a graceful stone church using his own personal funds. This enduring structure stands today as a quiet testament to their devotion and perseverance.

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
