Set high on the northern slope of Mt. Bangake, this church occupies a dramatic hillside overlooking the vast expanse of the East China Sea. In the early Meiji era, Omizu was a Christian settlement without formal leadership or trained missionaries, a circumstance that helped it escape persecution but also delayed its return to Catholicism.

Through the dedicated efforts of Sukesaku Akabane and Kita Akabane, many residents were eventually baptized, guiding the community back into the Catholic fold.
