Leaving Wakamatsu Port and driving about seven kilometers toward the Ryukanzan Observatory, with sweeping ocean views along the way, visitors are suddenly greeted by a strikingly modern church. The cobalt blue sea stretches out before it, while lush green mountains rise behind, creating a serene setting that reflects the enduring history of the Christian faith. Its chalk white exterior and soaring cross shaped bell tower lend an air of dignity to the landscape.
Although not visible from the church entrance, a statue of the Virgin Mary stands upon the seaside rocks below, watching over the vessels that pass through the Seto Inland Sea as if offering a silent blessing.
