Inoura once thrived with salt fields, but these were abandoned following the Meiji Restoration. By the mid Meiji era, Catholic families began settling in the area, rowing across the water to attend services at Ozo Church before a small chapel was finally built in 1947. In 1975, the community became part of the Matenoura Parish, a connection that continues today.
Nestled deep within the inlet, the church remains hidden from the open sea, offering a quiet sanctuary embraced by the surrounding landscape.
