This village traces its roots to the descendants of Christians who migrated from Shitsu in the Sotome region and endured persecution during the Goto crisis. With the arrival of Father Brel in 1880, the settlement grew into an important pastoral center for Kamigoto. The original church, completed in 1903, gradually deteriorated, leading to the construction of a new church in 1979 on the grounds of a former kindergarten situated below the old site.
Near the end of the war, the earlier church had been requisitioned by the Navy, and in the postwar years the returning population soon outgrew the building, prompting an extension in 1949. During this renovation, a brick tower was added to the façade, incorporating bricks salvaged from the old Urakami Cathedral that had been damaged in the atomic bombing.
